Donny's top 10 things to do in the town centre this week

Here's Donny's top ten highlights for the week...


1   On Tuesday its another full Market Day on Doncaster's award winning Markets with over 400 stalls, the majority of them indoors - including over 70 food traders in the dedicated Food Hall, Fish and Fruit & Veg Markets. There are Full Market Days on Friday and Saturday as well and not forgetting the giant Antique & Second Hand Market on Wednesday...

2   On Wednesday there's a Lunch Hour Concert of classical violin and piano music at the Museum on Chequer Road featuring Jonathan and Elizabeth Sparey. A good opportunity to visit some of the exhibitions on at the venue including the St Leger inspired Horsing Around show...

3   Cast - our amazing new performance venue - has a visit from popular singer Gareth Gates on Wednesday night, performing in the main auditorium at 7.30pm.

4   Upstairs in the Salutation is the place to be on Thursday evening. Local artist Terry Chipp is demonstrating the creation of a new painting with everyone attending in with a chance of winning the artwork produced

5   A new production of Gilbert & Sullivan's The Mikado opens at Cast on Thursday night with a further performance on Friday. The venue will be busy at it is also hosting performances of Kiss Me Like You Mean It on the same nights...

6   Friday offers us a great opportunity to explore one of the town's most important buildings with a free admission Open Day at the Mansion House on High Street from 10am until 2pm...

7   Another fine building to visit on Friday is Doncaster Minster, the excuse being the free lunchtime Organ Recital by Lee Dunleavy at 1.10pm...

8   On Saturday popular author Robyn Young will be meeting fans and signing books at Waterstones from 2pm. Perhaps pop in to see her while shopping in the Frenchgate...

9   Donny is not ashamed to give Cast a third entry in this week's top ten to mention Saturday night's concert by first lady of jazz, the great Clare Teal. Music of a different kind is represented by The Smoking Hearts at the Leopard, Warrior at the Horse & Groom and bands at Cask Corner the Vintage Rock Bar and other venues across the town centre

10  And finally, it's been a long time coming but Saturday night also marks the grand VIP reopening of Doncaster night club Club Faith - formerly Karisma - on Duke Street from 10pm until late...
